Oracle OpenWorld started yesterday and San Francisco is just buzzing with Oracle folks and the excitement generated by the new Oracle Autonomous Database announcements made by Larry Ellison during last night’s keynote!
If you are interested in more information on the Autonomous Database and how it’s changing the roll of the DBA, be sure to check out the “Preview of Oracle Autonomous Database” that Juan Loaiza‘s and I will present on Wednesday at 3:30pm in Moscone West, room 3014.
But what about session picks for today?
Today kicks off with one of the best general sessions of the conference, General Session: Data Management in the Cloud using Autonomous Database Cloud Services Session GEN6559 at 12:15pm inMarriott Marquis – Salons 7-9 (Yerba Buena Ballroom) in which Andy Mendelsohn, EVP of Database development, will share what you can expect from Oracle Database 18c and how data management in the Cloud using Autonomous Database Cloud Services can help ensure future success for your business.
I’m going to try and get to as many sessions as I can today, so if you want a SQLMaria laptop sticker you can track me down at the following sessions:
- 2:15PM – 3:00 PM Oracle Exadata: Disruptive New Memory and Cloud Technologies delivered Juan Loaiza in Moscone West – room 3014
- 3:15PM – 4:00 PM Memory Without Bounds: Policy-Based Automation in In-Memory Column Store Content delivered by Andy Rivenes in MosconeWest – Room 3010

If you are attending the conference in person, don’t miss the opportunity to chat with the Oracle Database team at the Oracle demogrounds (Oracle Exchange), which opens today on the ground floor of Moscone West. You will also find mini-theaters in the demogrounds this year and my AskTOM colleague Connor McDonald kicks things off there at 11:30am with a session on Ask TOM’s Favorite Multitenant/In-Memory Features in Oracle Database 12cR2.
